Political Candidates

There are two political parties that dominate each election. They are the Republican political party and the Democratic political party. The political candidates that run for each party have different beliefs on a number or different items on a normal political agenda. A republican is considered to be the conservative political candidate while the democrat is considered to be the liberal political candidate.

•The Republican political party follows a conservative viewpoint and adjusts their political agenda to fit this philosophy. Republican political candidates are more likely to believe in conservative viewpoints. The Democratic political party follows a liberal viewpoint. Economically, the Republican political candidates believe that the government should not increase any individual’s tax and that minimum wages should continue to be the same as they currently are. Economically, the Democratic political candidates believe that taxes should not be raised for the poor and middle classes, since they are already struggling financially. The political candidates are known to vehemently disagree on raising taxes for individuals that are rich. The Republican political candidate believes that taxes on the rich should not be raised and the Democratic political candidate believes that the rich should pay higher taxes. The Democratic political candidates also believes in raising minimum wages for the population.

•Each of the political candidates from the political parties are associated with a particular symbol. The Republican political candidate is represented by an elephant and the Democratic political candidate is represented by the image of a donkey. The Democratic political candidate is represented by the color blue and the Republican political candidate is represented by the color red. Socially, both political candidates are in favor of a democracy. However, the Republican political candidate believes that social issues should focus on individual rights and the Democratic political candidate believes in a shared sense of responsibility within a community. The political candidate views differ drastically on everything from military spending to abortion rights. Republican political candidates believe that abortion should be illegal and that military funding should be increased. The Republican political candidates also believe in the death penalty.

•In general, the Democratic political candidate does not believe in the death penalty. The Democratic political candidate usually believes that military spending should be reduced and that abortion should remain legal. Although both political candidates typically oppose gay marriage, the Democratic political candidate is more likely to support gay marriage than the republican party political candidate. The Democratic political candidate is also more likely to be in favor of legalizing civil unions for gay couples while the Republican political candidate is likely to oppose it. Both parties have particular states that they are strong in. In elections, New York and California typically give most votes to the democratic political candidate. States in the south such as Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma will tend to vote for republican political candidates.

Political candidates for each party make their views well known around election time, when they are trying to convince others of their political viewpoints. No matter what party the political candidate represents, it is likely that they will have a following of people who agree with their views, although their following may not be as number strong as their opponent’s.
